PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has appealed to the people of Luuka District in Busoga Region to concentrate on household income generating activities that, he observed, will uplift their standard of living in this era of money economy.

The President was over the just ended week-end addressing a public rally at Luuka district headquarters after performing the ceremony of ground breaking for the construction of Luuka District Administration block.

Museveni noted that families that have not heeded the advice recommended in the 1996 National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto of adopting intensive commercial agriculture on a 4-acre piece of land are endangering their families in this era of money economy.

He called on the people of Luuka district to emulate the example set by Mr. Kasone, a progressive farmer in the area, so that they are able to graduate out of household poverty.

President Museveni told the gathering that the National Agricultural and Advisory Services (NAADS) programme, is to be restructured so that the money that is saved is injected into the purchase of seedlings and breeding materials that will be distributed to farmers.

The President informed the wananchi in Luuka that after experimenting modern commercial farming in his home area of Kiruhuura district, he discovered that it was possible to eradicate poverty in rural areas of Uganda.

The President’s address that was interrupted by heavy rain pledged Shs.50 million each to Luuka Women Group SACCO and to the youth group respectively.
