UBOS to recruit over 80,000 for 2014 census

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics is set to recruit over 80,000 people to take part in the 2014 census.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is set to recruit over 80,000 people to take part in the 2014 Uganda Population and Housing Census starting in August.
At least one enumerator for every Local Council 1 village, technically called an Enumeration Area will be recruited.
Also at least one supervisor for every parish or ward will be recruited, that could amount to more than 80,000 posts.
According to details placed in New Vision job mart, the deadline for receiving applications is June 30.
The jobs will be temporary and the successful persons must be available from August 1 to September 14.
The essential requirement for the parish/ward supervisor is that the person must be resident in the area, should be mature with experience in coordinating census and should have an advanced level certificate of education.
Enumerators are required to possess an ordinary level certificate, should be resident in the area, and an adult who is social.
The last census carried out by the bureau in 2002, put Uganda’s official population at 24.2million people.
According to the executive summary of the census report, analysis of data from Kotido district was excluded, after evidence of deliberate falsification of data was detected.
However, estimates done last year by United Nations Social and Economic Affairs Division in New York, Uganda’s total population reportedly surged to 37.5 million, up from 34.5 million in 2011.
