Residents of Kitovu-Kisenyi village in Mafubira Sub County, Jinja district protested what they described as deplorable state of the Kitovu-Kisenyi-Kaitabawala road.

They did not barricade the road but got hoes, sped, rakes and started digging trenches and clearing the busy areas on the road in order to create a way to their Kisenyi village.

They accused their leaders particularly their Butembe County area Member of Parliament, Daudi Migereko and the L.C III chairperson of Mafubira Hamis Kiganira for neglecting them and not working on the road yet government releases funds for road construction.

They worked on the road while cursing their area MP, Migereko who is also the minister of lands of for neglecting them.

David Pande, the youth chairperson at Kitovu-Kisenyi village said, “We are tired of leaders who do not support us and who do not visit their constituency. They use us as ladders and later after succeeding, forget us.”

He vowed to mobilize residents not to elect such leaders back into power, a statement that attracted applause from fellow residents who were clearing the road to make it passable.

Women carrying their babies on the back were also seen digging.

Nagawa Nabongo, the L.C I chairperson of Kitovu village said pregnant women have been facing difficulties with transport to hospitals during labour pains, adding that it is worse when it rains because the road becomes slippery.

Hamis Kiganira, the Mafubira L.C III chairperson said the road has never been worked on since he came into power as chairperson and confessed that leaders have not done enough to support residents in grading roads in Mafubira Sub county and Butembe county at large.

“The Sub county receives sh20m after every quarter to work on roads from government but this money is not enough because Mafubira Sub county has about 168 roads that need to be worked on,” Kiganira said.

He requested government to increase on the funds sent so that they may be able to grade most of the road.

He added that the Kitovu-Kisenyi-Kaitabawala road requires about shs300m to be graded which the Sub county doesn’t have at the moment.

Efforts to get a comment from Daudi Migereko were fruitless since his phone was not available.
