Recognise workers to boost productivity - Katatumba

 

He however, urged employers to look beyond monetary rewards if they are to motivate their workers to deliver on their full potential.

 

“Rewarding people as a way of recognising their contribution in an organisation is very important to boosting their (employees’) productivity. Unfortunately, most employers think it is a costly venture involving only giving money, which may not be the case,” he said. 

 

Katatumba was speaking during the launch of the maiden World Savers Excellence Awards 2014 in Munyonyo recently. 

 

Started by Joel Ssekidde, an Apostle at the World Savers Christian Fellowship, a charity, the Awards seek to recognise individuals, organisations, institutions and companies that innovate programs and projects through committing their lives and time for the wellbeing of humanity, saving lives, preserving and promoting environmental sustainability and alleviating poverty.

Nominations by SMS to 0752 531 231 indicating name of the nominee/ company, contact, award category and nominator’s names will be received until November 7th, 2014. 

 

Scheduled for December 5th, the Award gala will take place at Imperial Royale hotel, Kampala. 

 

The Awards seeks nominees for its 18 categories including; male and female personalities of the year, male and female young personalities of the year (30-years and below), transport industry, ICT, telecommunications, finance and banking, business and trade, health, sports, entertainment, culture, religion, education, foods and beverages company of the year, agriculture, water and sanitation, human rights and community social responsibility award.

 

“As a church-based institution, we felt we should create a platform where we recognise the contribution of different people, especially young entrepreneurs in different sectors,” said Patrick Ogwel, the charity’s chairperson.

 

Katatumba hailed Ssekidde’s vision, noting that employee motivation is a critical in personal and organisation growth, but is often neglected.

 

“We seek to recognise individuals who invest their time and personal resources, however little, to make a difference in their communities. They are the unsung heroes we wish to recognise,” said Ssekidde.

 

Johnson Kamya, the business development director at the World Savers Christian Fellowship, said the awards targeted people across all regions of Uganda. “No region is excluded in the awards. We seek as many nominations as there will be.”
