Sh450b for public servants'' pay rise

Government has allocated sh450b to enhance the salary of all public servants in the fiscal year 2014/15.

Government has allocated sh450b to enhance the salary of all public servants in the fiscal year 2014/15.


The amount includes provisions for the teachers’ pay increase in line with Government’s agreement with the Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU), finance minister, Maria Kiwanuka, has said.

“The salary of the lowest paid teacher will increase by between 15% and 25%. Other public servants’ salaries will also be adjusted within the available resources,” the minister said.  

Kiwanuka announced that in the next financial year, Government will enhance health workers remuneration and improve their skills through capacity building.

She said health facility infrastructure at both local government and referral levels, will also be expanded, in addition to the construction of additional staff houses in lower level health facilities to minimize on absenteeism.

Sh1,005.5b has been allocated to the security sector representing 7.1% of the total budget. Works and Transport sector sh2,575.5b.

Ush 75b to the Uganda Road Fund to facilitate the maintenance and rehabilitation of approximately 10,000km of national, district, urban (including Kampala City) roads and community access roads across the country.

Sh 1,675.7b to the Energy and Minerals sector to undertake mineral development. Sh1,699.4b to the education sector in the next financial year to enhance the quality of education.

Sh1,197.8b to enable implementation of the Government priority programmes in the health sector. An additional sh30b for enhancing safe water provision and sanitation.
