Court rejects Kato-Kajubi's appeal

The Court of Appeal has rejected an appeal by city tycoon Godfrey Kato-Kajubi, who was sentenced to natural life imprisonment by the High Court for ritual murder of 12-year-old Joseph Kasirye.

In July 2012 the High Court sitting at Masaka sentenced Kato-Kajubi to imprisonment for the rest of his life following a retrial.

Initially, the trial court that was presided over by Justice Moses Mukiibi had set Kato-Kajubi free without putting him on defence.

However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appealed against the acquital, and court ordered for a re-trial where he was subsequently convicted and jailed for life. Kato appealed hence today's verdict.
