KCCA orders Lukwago to return official vehicle

KAMPALA - Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has written to embattled Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, ordering him to return the official vehicle.

KCCA insists that Lukwago is no longer the Lord Mayor. The authority therefore wants Lukwago to surrender the Land Rover Discovery 4, which is the Lord Mayor’s official car.

The vehicle has a telephone, garage door opener, voice control and a personalised number plate.

In the letter, KCCA’s executive director, Jennifer Musisi, warned Lukwago that he was committing an offence by illegally using KCCA property. She told him that in case the vehicle broke down, he would be personally responsible.

KCCA legal officer Charles Ouma said although the time frame for Lukwago to return the vehicle remains open, he is using it illegally.

Sources told our reporter that when KCCA officers delivered the letter to Lukwago’s law firm, his employees rejected it. They then took it to his residence in Wakaliga, a city suburb.

According to the sources, the officers found Lukwago at his home, but he refused to acknowledge receipt of the letter.

Efforts to get a comment from Lukwago were futile as he did not answer our phone calls.

According to the KCCA Act, the Lord Mayor and his deputy are entitled to official vehicles to help them monitor activities in the city.
