Grammy Award-winning Christian singer Israel Houghton thrills crowds at Watoto big party

By Carol Kasujja

The much anticipated ‘Watoto Big Party’ concert went down as planned at Watoto West in Kyengera yesterday evening with massive crowds that flocked the venue.

By 4:00 pm, sidewalks leading to the venue were lined with vehicles as fans and believers made their way to the free concert.

The singing started off as early as 8:00pm with the Watoto church choir and the children’s choir.

After the performances, the founders of Watoto, Gary and Marylyn Skinner came on stage and prayed for the crowd.

“Jesus is in this place. I can feel his presence and he is here to touch you, you might be going through a tough time, but I have good news for you, there is nothing that God cannot solve. Thank you God for this evening,” prayed Gary.

After that short prayer, it was time to give back to God by collecting offertory. On the screen, they showed different people giving their experiences about Watoto.

“I have the chance to practice justice at the world level because of the values I picked from Watoto Church. I am proud of Watoto,” said Justice Julia Sebutinde.

Another speaker was Joyce Meyer who reckoned the time she visited the Watoto homes.

“I built a baby home in Watoto villages and I am so proud of it,” said Joyce Meyer.

All those were just fine, except they were all shadowed by the Grammy Award-winning Christian singer Israel Houghton.
Lights were switched off to cue his arrival. At 9:30pm, Israel with his band stormed the stage.

Clad in black jeans and a black T-shirt with a guitar, Israel straight away started singing his old hits, he gave his best singing crowd favourite like he Knows My name, Hosana and Here I am to worship.

For the thousands that managed to attend, the show was a memorable one.

Those first songs made celebrators cry out to the lord. The way people were praising, any non-believer around, would confess Christ.

The sound was good and the stage set-up with dazzling lights kept people waiting till midnight.
Israel put up a good performance, sang the full length of his songs and utilized his time to engage the crowd.
He had the audience’s attention undivided.

On the whole, it was a good show for those who managed to get in and they must have forgotten the traffic jam from Busega to Kyengera.
