It is said that the more one worries, the older one gets and the more one laughs, the younger one feels.

Perhaps, the latter is the reason why comedy has steadily thrived in Uganda. It seems to be the only worthwhile remedy after a long stressful day.

This was evident as a reasonable number of comedy fans turned up for the queens of comedy night at Century Cinemax, located at the newly completed Acacia mall in Kiseminti.

The show kicked off at around 8:00pm with the fans’ favourite; Cotilda Anipo (who doubled as the MC) ushering the audience into the moment of endless laughter.

Her jokes almost cracked the ribs of many as everyone laughed over and over again like there was a reward for the best laugher.

Shortly after, she welcomed the new girls on the block, Lisha Julie and Eve Nabadda who also tried their best to impress the fans.
At first, their jokes didn’t seem funny but along the way, they gained control of the crowd with hilarious ones.

The other performer was Dorah Nakaga whose jokes mainly centered on the discipline of our Rwandese neighbours; especially the girls.

As if saving the best for the last, Cotilda then invited a very funny Mukiga lady, Kobusheshe Nancy to the stage.

Her jokes, mostly done in broken English with a typical Rukiga accent were breathtaking from the start.

It all seemed like she was stressing the point that the best comedians hail from the highlands of Kigezi, considering Uganda’s best Anne Kansiime hails from the same area, Kabale.

The show ended a few minutes after 10:00pm and the fans looked totally satisfied.
The Queens of Comedy night is on every first Tuesday of the month.

The Comedy queens pose for a photo with Afande Kerekere after the show.
