State minister for water Betty Bigombe will have to quit cabinet and her Amuru Woman MP seat following her appointment to a senior position in the World Bank.

She has been appointed senior director for Fragility, Conflict and Violence at the World Bank.

Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo said by the very nature of Bigombe’s new job which is a full time in nature, she will have to resign both as a minister and MP if she is to take up the post.

“I am aware that she has furnished the Head of Public Service (John Mitala) with a copy of her appointment letter and it is a full time job,” Ofwono Opondo said adding that Bigombe furnished Mitala with the details last week, prompting Mitala to advise her to seek the consent of the appointing authority (President Yoweri Museveni).

“I am not aware whether she has done that and I have not seen any resignation letter. Government has no problem with her taking up the job,” he said.
