With just a few days remaining to the first FMU sprint championship circuit at the Uganda Sports Arena in Busiika on Sunday, defending champion Shafiq Ssemujju has promised top contenders a run for their money.

The JCB-sponsored crew in a Subaru N11 told New Vision online his team is not ready by all means to surrender the crown he won last year.

“We are ready for any one. Our car is okay and we are ready to go,” said Rajab Kavuma, the crew’s manager.

Meanwhile, the crew of Ronald Ssebuguzi and Cedric Buzaabo in a Mistibish Evo9 that lost the championship narrowly last year also vowed to win this year’s event.

“We are ready for the Sunday sprint. This year we want both the Sprint and the National Rally championship (NRC) titles,” declared a confident Ssebuguzi.

Ssebuguzi, who is sponsored by Shell V Power, beat top title contenders Duncan Mubiru aka Kikankane in a Subaru N14 and Jonas Kansiime in a Subaru N10 in the Masaka rally.

Mubiru and Kansiime finished second and third respectively in the Masaka rally.

Ssebuguzi is currently leading the NRC table standings.

However, current Sprint Champion Shafiq Ssemujju is also spitting fire. “I know I won this title last year on merit and if the machine doesn’t let me down, they should forget that title,” said the driver.

The double sprint circuit in Busiika will cover a total distance of 8.5km.

A total of 17 drivers have confirmed their participation, and they include: Suzan Muwonge, Peter Kakaire, Fred Wapamba, Duncan Mubiru aka Kikankane, Jonas Kansiime and Laila Irene Blick Mayanja, among others.

The event is sponsored by Coca-Cola, Uganda telecom, Ambulance Africa, KR Moto Garage, Sema Properties, and Fresh Diary.
