Drop charges against UDB boss - court assessors

Court assessors have opined that Uganda Development Bank (UDB) chief executive officer Patricia Ojangole, be freed from charges of conflict of interest at the Anti- Corruption Court.

Court assessors have opined that Uganda Development Bank (UDB) chief executive officer Patricia Ojangole, be freed from charges of conflict of interest at the Anti- Corruption Court.

The assessors call was made Friday at the court in Kampala presided by judge Lawrence Gidudu.

In the joint opinion, Annet Kasendwa and Fred Kiggundu said that prosecution had failed to prove the ingredient of influence peddling.

“Circumstantial evidence needs to be corroborated by direct evidence which prosecution failed to do and this created a doubt in our minds,” stated Annet Kasendwa who read the joint opinion with that of her colleague. Fred Kiggundu.

Ojangole, 36, is accused of influencing her recruitment process that resulted in her appointment as head of the bank on November, 30, 2012.

The Inspectorate of Government purports that the action amounts to a charge of conflict of interest as prescribed in section 9(1) and (2) (a) of the Anti- Corruption Act. Judgment is scheduled for delivery on June 30.
