LUWEERO - Democratic Party's (DP) Brenda Nabukenya has won the Luweero  woman MP by-election by a huge margin.

Returning officer Alex Komuhangi declared her winner with the following results: Brenda Nabukenya 38,582;  Rebecca Nalwanga 22,236; Ramula Kadala 768 and Farida Namubiru 717.

Nabukenya beat her closest challenger NRM's Nalwanga convincingly by over 16, 000 votes in a contention that had been seen as a two-horse race.

In the runup to the Thursday polls, both the NRM and the DP were confident of victory, and by the end of the day, it was DP bagging the spoils.

Nabukenya had foreseen a landslide victory for her camp, and true to her projection, the odds surely turned in her favour as the Electoral Commission declared her winner after the votes had been tallied.

Proceedings on voting day went on without much incident, save for a time when Ingrid Turinawe of the opposition side was arrested for trespassing at Luwero district headquarters

Then, there emerged complaints of missing voter names on the lists. Speaking to the press after casting her ballot, Nabukenya was bitter about the missing names, claiming that it was a strategic ploy by her main rival camp.

But on her part, Nalwanga maintained that she would accept whatever outcome of the vote counting.
