The Kampala fashion into a flop, Well we saw that coming

When announcements made rounds that Uganda’s fashion industry was hosting the organizer of the New York fashion week, a lady named Lauri Dejong (creative soul if you ask me), the media went crazy and so did the organizers.

Expecting a grand showcasing and a flood for a crowd.

A crowd to choke the Victoria hall at Serena Hotel with revelers to the point that some would be, at the point of yanking out 4 50k notes to pay for entrance, asked to shove their 200k back in their jean pockets or purses.

The brown-legged Muganda girl (presumably, Zononoza Zaitun a.k.a Z2 by name), an usher clad in a purple skimpy and an immaculate grin would then advice, in a slick American accent that “the place is full but you are too early for the next event.

It will happen, like, oba next year? And oh, it won’t be in Uganda, probably in Madagascar. Be sure to come early next time, thank you for coming”

But like I said, those were just expectations. Back to reality now shall we? The name New York fashion week evoked noise but the show, dubbed the Kampala fashion intro didn’t live up to it.
Not any bit.
I will okay (oh, and in case you are wondering, I am the jury here) that bit of the designers showcasing great designs.
The models knew their thing. You know, gliding down the run way swaying their pelvises.

Easily, they show cased the creative designs of the various designers from Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya.
They made it seem so easy, those models. I mean, all it takes is a fleshless body, a nice skin color regardless of the texture and legs the height of an ostrich and you are good.

Notably, still, it was the fashion savvy posers that filled the V.I.P probably after having been invited as the V.I.P section was full.

And you could tell most of them had traveled from as far as South Africa to attend (hint Zari) from the overly faked accents (hint Z2) looming across the victoria hall.

But the auditorium (you better sit down now) was bleak.

Like the designers, Gloria Wavamunho, Xenson from Uganda, Cynthia Rupari and Patrick Muhire from Rwanda, Sheria Ngowi and Cynthia Munwangari from Tanzania and Burundi, respectively, were on stage rehearsing how to use their American accents when talking about their designs on the actual event which would happen the next day.

Eh? So the rehearsals ended at 11:00pm, sharp. And the paltry crowd sauntered out the Victoria hall pretending to discuss fashion yet the would-be fashion admirers hadn’t attended  (yes, Aamito expected a bunch of people surrounding her for autographs naye maama)so with no one to admire them, they proceeded home.
