Rated Next: performances, eviction and probation, all in one night

KAMPALA - With Sharifah, Lillian Apiyo and Lillian Nabuuma, who were axed from the competition last week, off the competition, it is bound to be tighter akin to threading a needle.

On Sunday, National Theatre packed to the brim for yet again another Coca-Cola Rated Next Sing It edition of the eviction show which is aired live on Urban TV.

The show, lately, has had some twists and turns. Guest host, Urban TV’s Mosha Danze, opened the show by calling up all the boys (Pages, Charles, Joshua and Hudson) on the stage.

Together, they performed Necessary Noise’s Bless My Room. Next contestant on stage was 14-year-old Ruth Grace, who happened to be on probation.

She did a rendition of Nameless’ Nasinzia and her performance rendered the judges, mainly Judge Siima, to instantaneously utter out their verdicts.

“Your song choice is a little old for you. It didn’t do justice to your vocal ability,” quipped judge Siima.

Pages, who was on probation too, performed Les Winyika’s Sina Makosa. Winne, thereafter, did French Boy and Ray C’s Moto Moto before one of the audience’s favorites, Joshua, performed Kidum and Juliana’s Haturudi Nyuma.

The judges didn’t seem to be pleased and wowed by the night’s performances so far. Judge Benon said Joshua’s performance lacked the wow-factor.

Tall, elegant and confident, Eseri followed with Wahu’s Sweet love. The judges, this time round, were immensely impressed by her unrivalled confidence with which she performed. Hudson, later, did Longombas’ Queen.

Charles, who a section of people label his voice as a falsetto, impressed the audience and the judges with his rendition of Fadhill Williams’ Malaika. Judge Sharpe Ssewali confessed and heaped praise on his performance labeling it the best performance of the night.

The show was culminated with the girls’ (Winnie, Eseri and Ruth Grace) of Blu*3 ft Radio & Weasel’s Where You Are.

Eviction, later, ensued. The three contestants - Pages, Hudson and Ruth Grace - who were up for eviction, were called onto the stage where the wheat was going to be separated from the chuff. At the end of an intense, heart-stabbing session, Pages and Hudson were evicted.

Thereafter, the remaining contestants in the competition were called back on the stage where Joshua, Winnie and Ruth Grace were put on probation for this week.
