Interpol writes to Botswana over arrested doctors

Interpol Uganda has written to its counterpart in Botswana concerning two Ugandan medical doctors arrested there.

Interpol Uganda boss, Asan Kasingye, said that though he had not got prior communication from Botswana, he had sent them a communication seeking details surrounding their arrest and detention.

“Am not aware that there were two Ugandan doctors arrested in Botswana, however, I have written to my counterpart in Botswana to find out more about the arrest and I expect the response on Thursday (today),” Kasingye said in a telephone interview.

Efforts to reach Ambassador James Mugume, permanent secretary ministry of foreign affairs were futile as his number was not available by press time.

According to recent media reports, authorities in Botswana last week arrested two Ugandan doctors over allegations that the duo had connections and were illegally operating a private clinic near the country’s capital city, Gaborone.

The suspects are Eli Musinguzi, who has lived in Botswana for seven years but has been working in the country’s national referral, Princes Marina hospital for three years and his colleague Brian Mutebi who works at the clinic as a full time staff.
 

The two doctors are bound for deportation after completion of an inquest into the cases Botswana authorities refused to reveal to the relatives of the detained doctors.
