DPP withdraws charges against NRM youth

The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has withdrawn charges against two NRM youth who were accused of abuse of office.

In a letter dated April 28, addressed to the Anti-Corruption court, the DPP said that the parties have agreed to settle the case outside court and its continuation in court should stop.

Adam Luzindana, NRM vice chairperson central and Omodo Omodo, the Northern Region vice chairperson were charged and remanded for soliciting ignatures to contest the Kyankwanzi resolution that endorsed President Yoweri Museveni’s sole candidature in 2016 polls.

Speaking to the New Vision, Luzindana confirmed that their lawyers had received the letter withdrawing the charges and were grateful that the party leadership had taken that course.

“We are happy that the party leadership has resolved to meet us outside court and also called for the withdrawal of charges. It was a big mistake to arrest us because we had no case to answer,” he said.

Luzindana also added that they were not ready to have talks regarding the case because there was no case according to them that warranted talks.

“There is no case. What are we going to settle?” he questioned.

Prosecution had alleged that the two acted prejudicial to the interests of their employer and in abuse of office that was assigned to them.

DPP publicist, Jane Okuo Kajuga, could not easily be reached for comment as her known lines were switched off.
