Constantine Ochwo scored a brace for Gulu University that saw his side book the final slot to the quarter finals at the Nile Special University Football League yesterday in Busitema.

Ochwo’s 22nd and 85th minute goals aided the northern Uganda to level 2-2 with Busitema University in their final group stage encounter while Busitema’s two goals were scored by Nicholas Alinganyira in the fourth and 81 minute.

Gulu’s victory puts them at 4 points in five games to maintain fourth table position in Pool B with a goals difference of two goals better than their rivals Ndejje University who finished in fifth place also with 4 points.

Ndejje needed to win with at list four goals to qualify to the next stage but couldn’t make it after their striker Stephen Ategeka’s 86th goal could only level them 1-1 with Kampala International University (KIU) at the Nsamby grounds.

While KIU’s Farouk Banga scored his team’s lone goal eight minutes into the second half to place their side to 10 points in third place.

The results therefore qualifies pool A table leaders MUBS, UCU, KU and Makerere together with Nkumba, Kyambogo, KIU and Gulu from pool B in the into the quarter finals that are scheduled for August according to league Manager Anthony Tumwesigye.

“We wouldn’t like to interfere with the Universities examination programs that are why we scheduled the games at a more convenient time when students are less stressed with exams,” Tumwesigye said.
