KCCA stumble to blow title race wide open

KCCA coach George Nsimbe believes his side are still in the title hunt despite being held to a 1-1 draw by URA at the Phillip Omondi stadium on Tuesday.

The league leaders blew a chance to go at least two points clear of second place Sports Club Victoria University who rallied to beat Police 3-2 at Kavumba.

KCCA and SCVU now share joint leadership though the former still remains top with a better goal difference and with a game in hand.

“We are still in it. First of all I want to thank my players for the performance because URA is not a small team; so I thank God for the point, though we have to find a solution to our lapses in the last minutes of every game,” Nsimbe said after the game.

“We still have three games to go, so the most important thing is to handle those games well and get the results we need from them,” Nsimbe added.

On the other hand 3rd placed URA coach Paul Nkata sounded biblical also insisting that; “We have to continue believing we can win it until the last match. Happy are those who believe without first seeing,” Nkata remarked.

Herman Wasswa scored his 11th goal of the season and 5th from the last six games as KCCA took a first half time lead.

The lanky striker pounced on Saka Mpiima’s well weighted cross to tap in.

But as soon as he was replaced by Ivan Ntege due to a knee injury in the second half, ten-man URA took charge of the game until they were rewarded with an equalizer in the 85th minute through Congolese striker Emmanuel Ngama.

Ngama pounced on a Robert Ssentongo pass to fire into the left hand corner of goal after KCCA defender Saka Mpiima failed to contain Ssentongo in the box.

A minute later KCCA survived conceding a second from a Ngama header off a Simeon Massa corner

URA defender Musa Doka was sent off after being adjudged for denying KCCA substitute Tom Masiko a goal scoring opportunity when he pulled him down as he broke through before the URA equalizer.

The other top contender Victoria University rallied from two goals down to beat Police 3-2 at Kavumba.
