Kiprotich High Altitude Centre gets Sh470m school

Teryet residents jubilated after a sh470m primary school was unveiled to them and a promise for a modern hospital as one of the projects to help the community made.

These are some of the benefits to the community as the construction of the Kiprotich High Altitude Centre started taking shape.

However the school needs more help as it has only 12 teachers attending to 443 pupils with some moving from as far as 18 km to come and teach yet when it rains, accessing the place for both the teachers and pupils is also a problem.

Most teachers stay in Kapchorwa which is about 18km from the area that is found on top of teryet hill
 

The school was unveiled by state sports minister Charles Bakkabulindi to Philip Muwanga, the LC 3 chairperson of Kepchesombe country and Sam Cheptoris, the LC V chairman in Kapchorwa on Good Friday.

The new school under construction

 “This is just part of the project that the locals will benefit from as we construct the national High Altitude centre. You will also be getting a good road and power will be distributed in all the trading centres as they construct a line to the centre.

Also all the towns on the route will get safe piped water,” said Bakkabulindi as he addressed the district and country leadership, together with the community and pupils of the school.
 

The school headmaster Stephen Muneria requested that the school be given a boarding section to help fight the too much girl child drop out from the region.
 

“We are also appealing to have a vocation school and the ministry to declare the school a hard to reach area.
 

“We need some help from the government to help us achieve more. We thank you for the construction but if we got a staffroom, library and teachers quarters, then I think we will be able to achieve our target,” said Muneria.
 

Bakkabulindi promised to see that they act on the short term request like declaring the place a hard to reach while others will be discussed at the ministry as they need a number of people to take decisions."
