UGANDA’S Hind Kimberly, Tendo Mukalazi, and Nabil Saleh bagged gold as the 12th edition of the CANA Zone 3 and 4 championships kicked off at the Kampala Parents School on Thursday.
Kimberly, 13, set the tone for Uganda swimmers in the morning session when she clocked 9:42.30 to win the 800m freestyle race in the girls 14 years and under category.
Another Ugandan Standen Isabelle who swam in the same category finished 11th overall.
Nuwa Senkebe Serunjogi (10:19.20) was Uganda’s other star winning silver in the boys’ category over the same distance, in a race that was won by Kenya’s Matteo Rosafio in 9:33.20.

Despite winning his heat in the 15 years and over category, Jethero Ssengonzi finished 11th overall in the final placing.
Ssengonzi recovered though in the afternoon to win a bronze in the 50 meter breast stroke.
Mukalazi Tendo and Nabil Saleh stared in the afternoon session. Mukalazi clocked 39.40 in the boys 12 years and under, 50m breast stroke race while Nabil was timed at 1:09.80 in winning the 100m backstroke race.
Rebecca Ssengonzi was also in fine form getting to the podium in second place behind Angola’s Maria Cipcic who won in 36.30 in the girls 50m breaststroke event.
The tournament was graced by the Nabagereka of Buganda Sylivia Nagginda among other dignitaries from government, UOC and NCS. Action continues today at the same venue.
