Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku rushed to the scene to establish what had happened and 5 minutes after the first blast, the second blast went off.

The official interior ministry communication has said the second blast was a detonation of the many explosives that were found in the car by the Police.

The blast comes on the heels of another recent bomb blast in Eastleigh where seven people lost their lives and 25 others were injured. The Kenyan security has intensified operations against Somali immigrants in Kenya who have no valid immigration documents.

Al-Shabab, the regional terror outfit have consistently warned of terror strikes on countries contributing troops to the African Union Mission In Somalia and other independent forces fighting in Somalia. They have however not yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

"I mourn the loss of the the two gallant officers who've died in their line of duty as they were defending and protecting our beloved country," tweeted police chief Kimaiyo.
