Sports Club Victoria University edged closer to winning their first Super League crown after beating Bul Fc 1-0 at Namboole on Friday.

Substitute Simon Okwi’s second half strike ensured the 2012 Uganda cup champions stay at par with defending champions KCCA FC on 49 points each.

But KCC remain on top because of a better goal difference with a game in hand.

The hard fought win had Okwi heading in off an Isaac Muleme cross in the 50th minute after coming on for Mathew Odong who injured his thigh as he fought for possession with Bul defender Hakim Magombe.

Bul FC goalkeeper Franco Oringa failed to deal with the cross for the goal, sending SCVU handful of supporters celebrating to the end.

But Muleme was lucky not be sent off later on in the game after punching Bul’s Peter Katumba in a melee after the ball had gone out. He escaped with a yellow card instead.

At Nakivubo sixteen time champions Sc. Villa were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Masaka. Karim Ndugwa scored for Villa with Derrick Ssemere netting for the visitors who remain in the relegation zone.

Express continued their recovery upwards with a 2-0 win over Soana. Express moved from 12th to 10 position on the log following the victory.

The duels between former champions Vipers and URA in Buikwe and the Simba versus Entebbe matches in Bombo ended goalless.
