UGANDA Volleyball Federation (UVF) unveiled their biggest corporate sponsorship deal yesterday with the president Sadik Nasiwu promising to clampdown on what he called saboteurs of the three-year contract with National Social Security Fund.

NSSF and UVF finally signed an annual sh60m sponsorship contract covering the Serie A and women national volleyball leagues.

Both the national men and women teams will also be catered for under the deal. The deal, open for review, runs for three years.

In the league, the sponsorship will cater for teams’ and referees’ kit, hire match venues, buy balls, nets and referees equipment.

For the national teams it will provide for the teams’ kit, training as well as allowances for officials and players.

The NSSF Volleyball League rolls off on Saturday.

“This may not be the best package but it’s a good beginning. We are still negotiating for other offers for the UVF awards and NSSF has already indicated that they will support the function,” Nasiwu said.

Nasiwu talks tough

“We wanted a beginning and here we are. Whoever will come around to sabotage this will face it rough from us. We shall ban them from volleyball without a second thought because we will consider them enemies of the sport,” Nasiwu had said before the ceremony at Workers House in Kampala.

NSSF acting managing director Geraldine Ssali said that under the contract, UVF and volleyball clubs are free to get their own sponsors.

“For us this is a great beginning which should be able to attract others to join in. NSSF will take co-sponsors. What we want is to support volleyball and see a difference which we are confident will come,” Ssali said.

NSSF has supported the annual NSSF-KAVC International Volleyball Championship for the last six years and Ssali, flanked by NSSF Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Olive Lumonya, reiterated the firm’s commitment to bankroll the international competition for years to come.
