After undergoing a highly competitive selection process, at least 20 graduates have qualified for a nine-month internship programme that will equip them with entrepreneurship skills.
The graduates selected from the different local universities is a second team to go through the Reach Up programme by the Digital Opportunities Trust (DOT) Uganda.
After being equipped with facilitation, coaching, mentoring, technology and communication skills, the interns are placed in different communities they are familiar with.
According to the Country director, DOT, Natalie Kimbugwe, the interns will provide technology, business and skills training opportunities and act as leaders of change in the communities Gulu, Kampala,Arua and Mpigi.
While meeting the Ugandan team, Canadian based, DOT founder and director, Janet Longmore emphasized the need that technology can transform lives of young people and the communities.
She added that the programme works with local managers in each country who are able to identify talent from the people they are well familiar with and no which interventions can adequately work in their situations.
Uganda Industrial Research Institute director, Prof. Charles Kwesiga, cautioned the youth against undermining opportunities.
“You are already living in the future and therefore need to take every opportunity that comes your way seriously or risk regretting for having missed it,” Kwesiga emphasized.
