At least 8 people were on Monday arrested over forgeries while several others were disqualified in the ongoing Uganda Prisons Services recruitment exercise in Tororo.

Among the arrested were some Kenyan nationals, but they were later released without any charges preferred against them.

Alfred Okullu, an assistant commissioner of Prisons who headed the recruitment at Tororo police ground, said most of the candidates were disqualified during the screening exercise.

He said majority of them had forged academic transcripts which were retained and requested them to produce their originals. They however vanished without turning back for fear of being arrested.

Okullu added that others were disqualified after written interviews for poor English while others had only mastered to pass a single subject.

The over 300 prospective recruits came from Tororo and Butaleja districts.
