THERE will be no time to rest for the nine national golf team members who left on Saturday for South Africa, as no one is guaranteed a place on the team for the subsequent events.

Apart from Ronald Otile who will join the junior team for the All Africa Golf champions due in Zambia, the rest will continue fighting for their places on the team.

Addressing the press before the team left for the Zone 6 championship in Cape Town, Uganda Golf Union president said they were going to keep the team engaged for the whole year.

“We hope to send a team of 24 to the Burundi open at the end of April, and many other events around the region all in preparation of the East African golf challenge to be hosted by Uganda in September,”Kiwanuka said.

“Every game they play from here is competitive. The players must always keep their game up in order to meet the requirements for the next event. So no one has a first call for any national team event,” Kiwanuka stressed.

That means all the 24 golfers who made the cut in the qualifiers and those that didn’t can still represent the country in other events provided they can beat the top players in the subsequent trials and local competitions.

Ronald Otile will on return join Denis Otim, Andrew Byaruhanga and Jonathan Musinguzi in preparation for the Africa Junior championship in Zambia starting May 2.

Later, one of them will travel to Scotland for a juniors training program with the rest continuing to fight for places on the nine-man team that will represent Uganda at the must-win East African Golf challenge to be hosted by Uganda.
