UPDF has repudiated claims from certain circles that Uganda has deployed troops in the conflict-riddled Democratic Republic of Congo.

Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, the spokesperson of the UPDF says on his twitter handle that claims that Uganda has boots on DRC soil are “lies”.

“UPDF in DRC? What a lie!” He said.

Ankunda also says that UPDF has no plans of deploying troops in DRC.

“We are not there and we have no intentions to go there,” he said.

Ankunda was responding to media reports that hundreds of UPDF soldiers are pitching camp at Sarambwe gorilla reserve en route to DRC.

Sarambwe is found in Rutshuru Territory North Kivu Province, about 100 kilometers North of Goma.

In the media reports, it is claimed that Jules Hakizimwami, president of North Kivu Provincial Assembly said that UPDF’s presence in Sarambwe poses a security threat to his country.
