Enterprise Uganda commended for Entrepreneurship development

Enterprise Uganda has been commended for initiating the Global Entrepreneurship Workshops (GEW) which has led to the development of credible business men and women in Uganda.

Enterprise Uganda has been commended for initiating the Global Entrepreneurship Workshops (GEW) which has led to the development of credible business men and women in Uganda.
Fred Ruhindi, Justice and Constitutional Affairs state minister made the remarks while opening the entrepreneurship conference sponsored by European Union, under the theme; “Exploring New Approaches to Business Financing” at Imperial Royal Hotel, Kampala on Thursday April 3, 2014.
Ruhindi said the workshops and activities carried out by the organization have highlighted the affirmative efforts they have put to develop credible entrepreneurs whose lives have changed and they are building the economy.
“I want to appreciate the organization and its global entrepreneurship partners for the activities they organize which have changed and improved the lives, human welfare and built economies of the country,” the minister observed.
He said GEW activities and workshops have helped develop entrepreneurs’ knowledge, skills and networks which inspires them to start and grow sustainable enterprises.
Ruhindi added, “The net outcome is a positive impact on participants’ lives, families, communities and the country at large.”
He said on behalf of government, “I wish to register our appreciation for the private sector and particularly SMEs which have recognized that even in private businesses; there are certain skills and principals that have to be acquired and upheld to produce enduring successes.”
Ruhindi noted that the government is proud of the private sector: given the enormous benefits it has in terms of employment creation, tax remittances, exploitation and value addition to resources, infrastructure development, forex earnings, import substitution and export promotion among others.
He commended the sector for not looking to government as the major employer but instead they are confident in themselves to generate incomes from the enterprises they create.

He quipped that government will continue to support indigenous private sector at all levels ranging from start-ups to growing small and medium enterprises in the country.
Ruhindi said Enterprise Uganda is an institution that is helping the government address the challenges facing the local SMEs in changing their mind-set, prepare businesses for growth and right ways to approach banks, leading to determination to succeed on sound and proven business principals.
The minister urged Enterprise Uganda to continue nurturing business men and women so that credible firms are created in the country which is enshrined in the government policy in the National Development Plan in fighting poverty.
