MAKERERE University football team fans lived up to their reputation as bad losers on Tuesday when they forced abandonment of their University Football League encounter with Uganda Christian University.

Referee David Nsubuga called off the game at the university’s main ground after Makerere fans stormed the pitch. They demanded that their team be awarded a penalty or the match will not continue after the ball hit a UCU player on the hand in the box.

“You either give us the penalty or nothing else otherwise this match is useless,” fans who camped in UCU’s penalty box chanted forcing the visitors’ goalkeeper Steven Mukubya out of his area.

Until then, Makerere trailed 1-0 courtesy of UCU striker Jeresome Luzinda’s fifth minute strike that got goalkeeper Moses Otema off guard.

University Football League manager Anthony Tumwesigye said after abortion of the match that they were going to review the incident and whoever is found guilty will be punished accordingly.

The incident leaves Makerere with a scanty chance of advancing to the quarterfinals while Uganda Christian University consolidated their leadership of Group A with nine points in three matches so far.
