Ndejje, UCU pedigree running ZUBL show

One month into the maiden Zuku University Basketball League, pedigree is the driving force as UCU and Ndejje dominate the men’s groups.
 
The two sides were tipped as favourites for this year’s title and that has not changed as the second round of group games gets underway today at the UMU and Ndejje Campuses.
 
Ndejje take on Kampala University in both and men and women’s bracket, with the same scenario playing out between UMU and UCU today at Nkozi.
 
Over the last four days, Ndejje University completed their sweep of Group B with three victories, taking their record to 4-0. Ndejje lead the group with eight points, four ahead of Kampala University.
 
Ndejje smashed Bugema 65-14, whipped St Lawrence 72-48 before defeating Cavendish 76-69. As the score-line shows, Emmanuel Chivale’s Cavendish were the toughest of Ndejje’s opponents but Jonah Otim’s 28 points and James Okello’s 15 propelled Walker Obedi’s Angels to victory. Jacob Tocmac and Gatwech Kutai were Cavendish’s stars with 25 and 18 points respectively.
 
In Group A, Nick Natuhereza’s UCU enjoyed an ego-soothing weekend with back-to-back laughers against Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). UCU thumped IUIU 101-31on Saturday before demolishing them 100-35 on Sunday. UCU lead Group A with six points, two ahead of Makerere, who were inactive.
 
IUIU first forays into basketball have not been very encouraging but to their credit, both their men and women’s team are still turning up committedly. The IUIU women lost 126-7, then 100-13 to their UCU counterparts. The UCU ladies lead Group A with six points, two ahead of UMU.
