President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned the newly completed Lubigi wastewater treatment plant located in Rubaga division, off the Kampala-Hoima Road.

The plant will treat 5.4 million litres per day, in addition to piped sewage and waste water from septic tanks and pit latrines from the city’s informal settlements.

The new plant will serve Kawempe, Bwaise, Katanga, Makerere, Nsooba and surrounding hotspots including Mulago Hospital and Wandegeya.

The Lubigi plant is part of the Lake Victoria Protection Project (Phase 1) intended to reduce pollution of Lake Victoria and improve waste water treatment.

Three other plants will be built at Kinawataka, Nakivubo and Nalukolongo.
