South Korea to build sh11bn vocational institute

THE South Korean government has given Uganda a grant of sh11b for the establishment of a vocational training Institute in Ntinda under the Skilling Uganda program.

The skilling Uganda project under the Business, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET) program is implemented under the ministry of education and sports.

The Korean government, through its development agency, KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) will work with the ministry technocrats to execute the project at Martyrs Way in Ntinda, on a 1.116 hectare piece of land provided by the government of Uganda.

The institute is scheduled to offer training in electricity, wielding and plumbing, automotive and sewing.

According to a release, KOICA will undertake the construction of the main office, lecture rooms, computer rooms and a multipurpose room (dining hall and auditorium) and provide equipment, furniture and materials necessary for the institute.

Through the ministry of education and sports, KOICA has been supporting the training and education towards a brighter future by sharing its technological expertise, building schools and offering pedagogical training and providing instructional materials.

The site handover exercise for the construction of the premises is scheduled for March 28, 2014. 

Among other things, the South Korean government intends to contribute to the manpower development of Uganda by sharing the know-how of Korean Technical and Vocational Education and Training models and development experience.
