Four candidates have been nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest in the Bubulo west constituency parliamentary by-elections.

They are; Ahamadah Wakhweya of Forum for Democratic Change and Rose Mutonyi Masaba of ruling National Resistance Movement, Joseph Masolo, an independent and Paul Butita of the Democratic Party.

The seat fell vacant following the expulsion of former MP Tonny Kipoi from Parliament over prolonged absence from the House.

Wakhweya and Mutonyi were nominated on Monday while Joseph Masolo an independent and Paul Butita have been nominated today Tuesday.

Shortly after being nominated, Mutonyi pledged to focus on better representation for the Bubulo people adding that she would also lobby for the child, youth and the mothers who are disadvantaged.

Wakhweya asked the people of Bubulo not to vote because of money given to them but focus on how best somebody can deliver.

The candidates were nominated by Manafwa district returning officer, Ibrahim Salim Kizindo in the presence of Electoral commission chairman Eng. Badru Kiggundu.

Butita of DP was by Monday still being held by police in Mbale over allegation of assaulting the Elgon region police commander, Jacob Opolot and Mbale district police commander, Gerald Twishime when police blocked the opposition meeting at sports club recently.  Bubulo west has got 135 polling stations with over 60,000 voters.

Eng. Kiggundu said that the exercise was calm with no interruptions from the candidate’s supporters but expressed concern of poor turn up of candidates who had picked forms.

Kiggundu warned candidates against using abusive language, commercializing campaigns and campaigning beyond the agreed time of 6:00pm saying it would lead to disqualification from the race.
