WITH one round of group matches left before the quarterfinals of the UCA T20 National League, it is looks like the two frontrunners for the title are the two Tornados.

This notion was reinforced with the weekend’s round of matches, which saw Tornado B stretch their perfect record to seven matches in addition to finally climbing to the top of Group A.

Tornado stretched their lead atop Group B to four points with a comfortable victory over SKLPS. Tornado B’s arrival at the summit of their pool was delayed by Charity’s own remarkable form (seven wins from eight matches) and the match schedule that always left them with a game in hand.

But two fuss-free wins from Jinja, first against Jinja SS and then JACC moved Tornado B to top spot in Group A, tied on 28 points with Charity, who have played a game more.

Lawrence Sematimba scored an unbeaten 59 runs and John Mpande took 4/12 as Tornado B (158/4 in 20 overs) defeated Jinja SS (96/9 in 20 overs) by six wickets in the tougher of their two-match Jinja assignment.

The second game wasn’t much of a contest, with Davis Karashani taking 2/8 as Tornado B bowled out JACC for 76 in 19.4 overs. Veteran Akbar Baig scored 42 off 28 to secure the eight-wicket victory inside Tornado B’s first eight overs.

Meanwhile, an all-round display from Frank Nsubuga inspired Tornado to a 47-run win over SKLPS at Lugogo on Saturday.

Nsubuga scored 54 and then took 3/9, all match-best figures, as Tornado (148/7 in 20 overs) defeated SKLPS, 101/7 to record their seventh win in six games.
