THE Kyambogo University Students’ Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared ten students to run for the institution’s students’ guild presidential race.

They include Steven Kuteesa (Mechanical Engineering), Rodgers Kizza (Development Studies), Hussein Kaddu (Education), Moe Joseph Lokinomore (Social Work and Social Administration) and Andrew Mukama Bimanya (Science Technology).

Others are Nancy Mundu (Education), Ondre Apollo (Education), Julius Okello (Automotive and Power Engineering), Victor Irumba (Management Science) and Tusasiirwe Layola (Community Based Rehabilitation).

The EC spokesperson, Patricia Nyitho said the candidates are not allowed to campaign in halls of residence and hostels after 10:00 pm.

“Any candidate found flouting this directive will be penalised. Use of abusive language will also earn culprits elimination from the race,” Nyito warned during a rally at Kyambogo University on Thursday.

The guild president is the head of the students’ guild which is the students’ supreme decision making body charged with the responsibility of ensuring seamless relationship between the university administration and the students’ body.

The guild president serves for a one year non-renewable term in office. Paul Mugabi is the current guild president, having taken over from Christopher Buni, son to Wadri Kasiano, former chairperson of the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC).

Kyambogo University students will go to the polls on March 27. The election of guild president, guild representative councilors [GRCS] and hall chair persons will take place on the same day.
