COME March 22, 2014, all roads will lead to Namilyango College for all the old boys of the great college as they celebrate 112 years of the school’s existence and pay homage to their Alma Mata, according to Fred Gyavira Kyaka, the NACOBA President.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Gyavira Kyaka said during the celebrations, the old boys will hand over the Sick Bay extension whose expansion they have funded, and embark on another project of tiling the various house floors. The school will also commission construction of another ‘O’ Level house to accommodate the increased numbers in the school.
The theme of this year’s celebrations is, “BUILDING A VIBRANT NAMILYANGO FAMILY”.
The day will start with Mass at 8:30AM led by the Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Bishop Mathias Ssekamanya, and there afterwards the rest of the celebrations will begin, Kyaka said adding that the guest of honor at the celebrations will be Mr. Emmanuel Katongole, the proprietor and CEO of Quality Chemicals, and VERO Mineral Water; an old boy himself.
Other notable old boys expected on the day include Norbert Mao, the DP President, Ambassador Professor Kiwanuka Ssemakula, Supreme Court Judge Justice Bart Katureebe, Mr. Okoth Ochola the Deputy IGP, Mengo minister Apolo Makubuya, the past and present FUFA Presidents, Lawrence Mulindwa and Eng. Moses Magogo respectively.
The old boys will also organize a free medical camp for the neighboring community. The medical camp will take place alongside career guidance talks by old students on Friday 21st March, a day before the main celebrations.
“Old students in the medical profession in conjunction with the Uganda Police medical department will again be at hand to provide assistance to the surrounding community members as part of our social responsibility”, said Gyavira Kyaka.
Namilyango College, the academic and sports power house, is the oldest secondary school in the country, founded on March 23rd 1902 by the Mill Hill Missionaries.
