A new telecom operator has entered the market in a period where the market is tilting towards mergers and acquisitions.
Smart Telecom, part of the Aga Khan Foundation for Development investment portfolio, did not immediately present a unique market offering except the cut price of sh74 for a call during their official launch in Kampala on Sunday.
Group chief executive Abdellatif Bouziani said they are entering with a new approach and are here for a long time.
“Others are wondering why we are coming while others are leaving,” said Bouziani.
Smart will operate on the 074 code.
