After confirming that Uganda is out of the 2015 Rugby World Cup qualifiers, the Rugby Cranes technical team has named a 24-man youthful squad to start preparations for the 2019 World Cup qualifiers.

The team will start their international calendar this year with the Confederation of Rugby (CAR) tier 1B tournament due June 10-14 in Tunisia, and the Elgon Cup (July 12-19) in Nairobi and Kampala.

The exercise has seen a number of senior players dropped. Notable among them are Robert Sseguya, Alex Mubiru and Entebbe Mongers’ Ronald Adigas.

Rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa told New Vision that the union is focused on 2019 World Cup qualifiers so they went for a youthful team that should have matured before the qualifiers begin.

“We are out of the 2015 qualifiers and now our focus is to build a team that will play the 2019 World Cup qualifiers,” Kasasa stated.
