Nkata snubs Ssentongo

FIFA has cleared Robert Sentongo to return to former Super League champions URA FC but head coach Paul Nkata insists that the striker was not in his plans for this season. 

The 2012 CECAFA Tusker top scorer and the 2011/12 MVP was finally cleared to return to URA after he had absconded from St. George FC of Ethiopia since 2013 following a financial disagreement. 

The Uganda Cranes striker has been occasionally training with URA but Nkata has insisted that he will think twice before fielding him for fitness reasons. 

“I have not been keen on Ssentongo because he was not in my plan. It is good he is cleared but it will not be automatic for him to get onto the first team. He has not been regular in training,” Nkata said yesterday. 

URA (39 points) is currently second on the FUFA Super League table, a point below leaders Vipers with 11 wins from 21 matches. 

In a communication to FUFA, both FIFA Director of Legal Affairs Marco Villger and Head of Players’ Status and Governance Omar Ongaro said Ssentongo was granted an exceptional transfer as requested by URA. 

“We would like to inform you that based on the documentation and information at our disposal, we are able to grant your request for the special exemption for the “validation exception” in the TMS,” a communication signed by Villger and Ongaro read in part.
