Deo Akope put behind his disappointment of failing to make the cut at the lucrative Kenya open to win the Lady Captain’s prize professionals tournament at Kitante on Friday.

The MTN sponsored ‘yellow boy’ carded 71 gross to beat fifteen professionals to the biggest share of the sh5m prize money.

Akope was two strokes better than second place Brian Mwesigwa in the one-day tournament played under wet conditions.

“The conditions were tough but I remained calm and patient because when it rains the wind factor comes into play so I played half shots to remain on the course, that’s how I made it,” Akope said.

Jinja-based Said Mawa and Opio Onito finished joint third with 74 each with Denis Anguyo finishing fifth.

The professionals will now turn their focus on a similar tournament next Saturday and the president’s shield tournament at the same course the following Friday.

This year’s captain’s tournaments are held to mark the end of Aggie Konde and Charles Katarikawe’s two-year terms as captains at the Uganda Golf Union.
