The Education Ministry has asked head teachers to submit lists of science teachers who have not been paid their monthly allowances.

Science teachers in secondary schools and tertiary institutions are entitled to a pay equivalent to 30% of their salary.

The education ministry’s acting permanent secretary, Patrick Muinda, in a statement yesterday directed the head teachers to submit the names according to a schedule issued on Monday.

The Ministry has established five regional centers where school heads are required to submit both soft and hard copies of the names of the teachers.

Head teachers of schools in Northern Uganda are required to submit lists at St. Joseph’s College Layibi not later than Thursday, March 13.

Schools in the West Nile region can submit lists to Arua Public Primary School on Friday, while those in Central region will submit the lists to Kololo SS on Thursday next week.

School heads in Western Uganda will submit their lists to St. Kagwa Bushenyi High School on March 18 while those in Eastern Uganda were expected to do so yesterday (March 11).

Several science teachers across the country have not yet started receiving the allowances from the Ministry of Public Service.

The Ministry’s spokesperson, Jonas Tumwine explained that they were waiting for a final list of science teachers from ministry of education in order to release their pay.

“We have been paying allowances for science teachers in phases, basing on information provided to us by the ministry of education. As soon as we get the final list, the teachers will receive their pay,” Tumwine said.

He disclosed that there were discrepancies in the initial lists submitted by the education ministry, in which some of the names did not match with their qualifications.

Tumwine, however, said the matter had been rectified and all the deserving teachers would be paid in arrears.
