PARLIAMENT is set to establish a salon and beauty Shop for female members of Parliament and parliamentary staff.

According to the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga both the salon and the beauty shop which will be established at the parliamentary building Kampala will cater for legislators and staff who don’t  find time to go to salon due to their tight schedules.

“We work all do long so at times one may fail to find time to rush to the salon, but with our salon here, one can be able to save a few hours  run to the salon and then back to their work,” said Kadaga.

Kadaga made the remarks over the weekend while addressing female parliamentary staff during an event organized by parliament for female staff members to mark the International Women’s Day.

She noted that the modern beauty parlour will be stocked with beauty accessories such as jewelry and makeup among other services.

“Due to our busy schedules we sometimes don’t get time to buy these things outside parliament, you might be called for a high profile meeting and you don’t have things like earrings and necklaces which complete a woman’s look.” she added.

Kadaga explained that women in parliament often need such facilities after using the gym adding that they have been accessing the service from outside parliament which eats into the limited time available to them.

In the same development, Kadaga said Parliament was also considering empowering women through creating job slots for women drivers to have the parliament’s transport department which is currently dominated by men have some female drivers.

“In Botswana‘s parliament it is only female drivers , why not also encourage women  to apply for these jobs here, I have asked the director human resource parliament to ensure that whenever  jobs for drivers are advertised women are encouraged to apply,” she said.
