CAF Champions League
KCCA 1 Nkana 2 (Nkana advance 4-3 on aggregate)
NKANA proved the better side as they beat KCCA today to advance to the CAF Champions League second round.
Claude Bwalya and Christopher Mwinthal scored for Nkana as the Zambian side fulfilled their promise of upstaging the hosts at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
With Nkana 1-0 up Brian Majwega pulled one back for KCCA with a beautifully curled free kick.
But KCC, who had conceded the first after a defensive blunder, were later to again be punished for coach George Nsimbe’s removal of defender Ibrahim Kiiza.
Kiiza’s departure left acres of space for Nkana in the midfield as linkman Ivan Ntege was forced to fall back. The pressure paid off with Mwinthal’s goal.
Nkana coach Masuso Mwale was all cheers “I told you that we would win. We studied KCC’s weak points and capitalized on them.”
Nkana will meet Egyptian side Zamalek in the second round. Zamalek drew with Angola’s 0-0 in Luanda to advance 1-0 on aggregate.
