Entebbe-based rugby club Sadolin Mongers stood by their word and refused to honour the promotion play-off fixture against Makerere Xfm Impis at Makerere.

Club chairman Kigongo Ssebalamu said there was no way they could be party to disorganized events because there is no way the sixth club in a league could play-play off with a championship of the championship for promotion yet there were the eight and seventh teams in the league.

The winner of today’s play-offs was meant to join the premier league next season while the loser be relegated to the championship.

“We were informed on Tuesday that we are to play the play-off on Saturday, but they didn’t tell us the criteria they used to make us play the play-offs yet there Lira which finished last in the league,” Kigongo stated.

He further explained that as clubs they have never agreed on the format the union is imposing on them that they will play the super six.

“Let them produce the minutes where we signed that we are going to play the super six and three clubs will be relegated and one promoted,“ Kigongo added.

Rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa had insisted that the game will go on and if Mongers doesn’t turn up they will go on with their decision.

“These people are given documents and they don’t read them, but for us we shall go on if they don’t turn up,” Kasasa stated.

Efforts to get a comment from Kasasa after the game were futile.
