Akope retained as national golf team coach

DETERMINED to improve the standards and performance of the national golf team, Uganda Golf Union (UGU) has re-appointed celebrated professional golfer Deo Akope as the national coach. 

Akope will start duty with the top twenty performers immediately after the national team qualifiers that tee-off on Tuesday new week and end Thursday on both Kitante and Entebbe golf courses.

The tournament is expected to attract more that 70 golfers from all clubs in the country.

They will play 18 holes at Kitante Golf Course on day one followed by 36 holes on Wednesday before the top 30 players return to Kitante for the final showdown that will see ten players dropped. 

“We have appointed Akope to take charge of the final team of twenty golfers selected from the tournament.” UGU president Kiryowa Kiwanuka stated.

 “We shall buy all team players kits for purposes of uniformity and professionalism and we are moblising funds to see that these players go to compete in international competitions in South Africa other countries for exposure,” Kiwanuka added. 

He further explained that in future the national teams will be selected basing on the points accumulated in the various tournaments played unlike in the past when players have been selected randomly.
