A female UPDF officer is determined to upstage men in the National Mountain Dew Motocross Challenge in the MX2 category.

Sgt. Hadija Nanyondo disclosed this to New Vision Sport after the opening round of event, that despite falling off the bike during the Mountain Dew Motocross Challenge, she is not going to give up but continue pursuing her dream of becoming a national champion.

The UPDF officer who recently returned from Somalia where she has been serving in the AMISOM peacekeeping force, explained that she wants to encourage more women to join the sport.

“It was a tough event being my first time but as a trained soldier I am not giving up,” Nanyondo stated.

“Yes I fell in a corner and doctors have treated me, but this is just a very small wound to scare me away from the sport,” she added showing the stitches in her mouth.

Nanyondo explained that she started riding on normal bodaboda bikes and was not used to the powerful sport bikes but she will get used after continuous training.

The Speedway Motorsport Club member added that she is to embark on mobilizing more women into the sport.

“Women are always left behind but I’m impressed with the young girls riding and am going to start mobilizing women to join the sport,” she stressed.

Esther Mwangala, Isabella Blick, Amina Mayanja and Sharifah Nansereka in the 50 and 65cc categories are the only active female competitors.
