Pioneer Easy Bus Company and Furniture supplier Dezy Enterprises, have opted to hold reconciliation talks in the settlement of the sh50m debt the former owes the latter.

A statement on the progress of the talks was made last week on Thursday at Commercial Court in Kampala in court presided by Justice Christopher Madrama.

Dezy lawyer Fredrick Mbaziira, stated that Pioneer had made a progressive step in the settlement of the sh50m debt. He said the furniture supplier had received three cheques totaling sh32m.

“I am happy to report that the company (Pioneer) lawyer Kenneth Nsubuga, has conveyed to us three cheques, a total of sh32m,” Mbaziira stated.

The case arose last year on April 10 when the Dezy sued, demanding payment of sh50m for office furniture supplied to the bus company.

Court documents show that the items supplied included a reception table, reception chair, 12 drawers, an executive table, executive visitor chairs, and a bookshelf.

Pioneer did not deny indebtedness, and subsequently last year on May 23, court ordered it to pay the sh50m.

Also yesterday, Mbaziira said Nsubuga who was absent, had requested him to implore court to grant the parties additional time to finalise their consent agreement. A lawyer Nancy Katwesigye appeared on watching brief for Nsubuga.

Accordingly, the case was adjourned to March 13. The judge applauded the parties for their efforts, and asked them to file the consent agreement before the next scheduled court appearance date.
