Karashani makes 'tough' Tornado B switch

DAVIS Arinaitwe says he will always be a Wanderer.
 
But after making “a tough decision” last week, Arinaitwe will spend the 2014 local cricket season playing for Tornado B.
 
“It was a tough decision to leave the Wanderers,” said Arinaitwe. “I have spent 10 of my 13 years as league cricketer at the Wanderers. The club has done everything for me.
 
“I was spotted by (Wanderers legend and coach) Sam Walusimbi when I was young and he brought me to the club. My debut was very special because it was Walusimbi’s last game and for me he is the greatest Ugandan cricketer of all time.
 
“That game was in 2000, against ACC and I took two wickets from first two deliveries, one of Ntanda Musa and then Mukobe Robert”.
 
In other words, all of Arinaitwe’s most precious memories have been at the club he calls his “bread and butter”. But few things in sport are permanent and players rarely turn down an offer that promises more.
 
And Tornado B have just won their maiden national title, have the strongest line-up in the land and seem headed for another successful campaign. Once they came calling, Arinaitwe had more reasons to leave the Wanderers than to stay.
 
“Some clubs seem to want to achieve things more than others so players are bound to move,” said the national skipper in the closest he came to giving the actual reason for joining Tornado B.
 
Arinaitwe’s move leaves the Wanderers further back in the race for silverware in 2014 season. The Wanderers are defending T20 national champions but as their nine-wicket shock to Jinja SS on Sunday showed, they are not likely to defend their title.
