Undercover brothers shine at pearl rhythm auditions

 

The auditions started at 6:00pm with Raymond Parwot lighting up the stage with his enchanting country vocals. He played the acoustic guitar with such adroitness yet his strong vocal delivery didn’t disappoint either. 

 

It also saw a couple of talented musicians like the Bantu clan, a multilingual hip hop group bright up the dimly lit stage where they were performing.  

 

Several other artist like Jaq Deweyi, a solo artist, Muki, an afro fusion band and Peter Kajoba and Arpeggio, two afro fusion vocalists and a band perform to the delight of the judges before the best performers of the night, “the undercover” brothers walked onto stage.

 

Armed with one well functioning guitar and awesomely corded vocals, the duo set out. They performed two songs, “omwagala kiralu” and “Nabirye” though, “Nabirye” stood out, like the proverbial sore thumb, it made fellow contestants cringe in envy and get drenched in awe at the way they blended their feats on stage.

 

 Jaylor Mulungi’s silky urban vocals saw the judges mouths hang loose on their jaws, agape, so to speak. 

 

They were as thrilled as they were enthralled; the search could end here as even the guitarist of the duo, Timothy Kirya sent a blissful shiver down the spines of every one in attendance with each pluck at the guitar. 

 

A thunderous hand clap clouded the gardens of Alianz Francais when they walked off stage.

The last performers, Charles Obina and Matata would have received much more applause if only they had come before the undercover duo as their Northern instruments and folk-like delivery was also a force to reckon with.

 

The judges took thirty minutes of decision on who to take and later came up with the list of the winners being Charles Obinah and Matata band, Raymon Parwot and for a moment, I thought they had forgotten the undercover brothers but when they mentioned them, the lead judge, Suzan Kerunen found it pertinent to indicate that the announcements were in no order of winning after which she announced the forth group, Peter Karjoba and Arpegio.

 

“We were looking for original artists with clean cut talent to perform at the pearl rhythm festival in October this year and the four chosen here will be mentored in all the necessary sections required for them to give a professional performance at the festival” said lead judge, Suzan Kerunen.

 

The auditions ended at 9:40pm, shortly after all the winners had performed again.
